Issue #17 - It's Steam Time!

It's been awhile, family. But that doesn't mean I haven't been cooking. In fact, as of TODAY, Barty's Adventure is up for wishlisting on Steam! So....

GO! GO! GO!

Wait.... what's Steam? And who's a wishlist?

I'm glad you asked.

Steam is THE market for PC games. If you have a game on a computer, you are most likely buying and playing it through Steam. According to some rough estimates, 70-80% of all game sales are done through Steam. That's a lot! That makes it SUPER important for the success of an indie game like this one. And that means using Steam's systems to try to promote the game as much as possible.

Wishlists are the main tool used by Steam in assessing interest in a game in its market. A wishlist is exactly what it sounds like. You are adding the game to a list of those you are interested in, but not buying yet. By adding this game to your wishlist, you're telling Steam "Hey! I'm interested in this cool and exciting bear game! Others may be too!"

If enough people add Barty's Adventure to their wishlist (especially in a short amount of time), Steam will take notice and add it into it's rotation of promoted games. This could either be on the landing page for the marketplace, "more like this" features, or other highlighted sections. If that happens, even more people will see the game, leading to more wishlists, leading to more promotions... and you can see the fuzzy snowball growing from there.

Now give yourself a pat on the back because you're the real MVP. Honestly, you really are giving this game, and my gamedev dreams, a boost by clicking a couple of buttons. THANK YOU!

As for development, I'm in full demo mode, working to refine a small playable part of the game for everyone out there to try out and enjoy. This is actually a ton of work, so I'll be crunching away at that for the next few months. I really want to get better at updates though, and that means more newsletters for you kids.

Until then, share the Steam page wherever you can! This has been a second job for me for over three years now, and I can see that the finish line exists. I'm motivated to put my all into this, and I'm happy you're here to join me on the adventure.
